Escalivada Pizza Recipe

We had homemade pizza for lunch. We made an escalivada pizza. Here’s a bit of story about this traditional dish and the recipe as well.


Escalivada is a traditional Catalan dish of smoky grilled veggetables. It consists of roasted eggplant (aubergine), bell peppers (red) and onion with some salt and olive oil.

The name comes from the catalan word escalivar “cook in ashes” referencing the dish’s traditional preparation.

  • 1 big eggplant
  • 1 big red bell pepper
  • 1 onion

how to

  1. Pour a bit of olive oil in a pyrex.
  2. Wrap the onion with foil.
  3. Place the eggplant and the pepper in the pyrex.
  4. Put it in the oven for 30 min at 180C
  5. When they’re done peel them and let put it on a plate.

tomato sauce

  • 1 tomato
  • 1/2 carrot
  • 1/2 green pepper
  • Salt
  • Pepper

how to

  1. Boil the carrot and pepper.
  2. Dice the tomato.
  3. When the carrot and pepper are boiled use a blender to mix.
  4. Put some olive oil in a sauce pan and then pour the sauce.
  5. Add salt and pepper.

Now I bought a pizza dough at the super market and added the sauce some mozzarella cheese and the escalivada. I baked it for 20 min and done!

  1. This looks ridiculously good, but I have one objection: even though I’d like to try it, I’m too lazy to cook it. I’d have to go to the supermarket and look for the vegetables, and that would take me AGES cause I never get vegetables. Also, I don’t know what eggplant is.

    Then comes the cooking, and THEN the waiting for it to cook in the oven.

    Do you have any advice for us who would LOVE to try this but are too lazy to do it?
